The Forgotten Season: What 2023 Trends Will Shine this Spring?

By: Katy Durand

Fall was over in a blip, and Winter fell along the same route, as the leprechaun prepares for hibernation yet again, and the Easter bunny has already picked out which florals he’ll be fitted up in for the big day. As consumers everywhere yearn for just a glimpse of the sun their pale bodies and crocheted items have been so deeply missing, we can’t forget about the season that holds such significance in the fashion community (of course not as much as Fall, but we can’t all be Anna Wintour’s favorite). Spruce up your wardrobe this Spring with these seasonal favorites:

Heavy-Duty Leather

You can’t say transitional dressing without “classic leather jacket.” Alright, maybe you can, but nonetheless leather weather is everything this Spring.

Ballet Core

Ballet flats have re-emerged from the clutches of the notion “only acceptable when they’re Chanel brand” and joined the real world to be the chic finish of any look. Serving in neutral styles, or punk princess, the ballet flat is a versatile shoe that will leave a spring in your step.

Denim Dynasty

While the oldest dynasty on Earth may be the Shang Dynasty, 1760 BCE has got nothing on this timeless fabric. Always a staple, just in different styles, the Denim Dynasty prevails this Spring, manifesting most consistently in the beloved maxi skirt silhouette– not to be complete without a maxed-out hem.

Acid Green

You’ll want a shirt this hue thrown your way this Spring - I swear it won’t burn your eyes. Brands like Fendi and Miu Miu have proved this bold bright is on the pallet to stay this season.

Sequins

Break out that bedazzler because Danielle Guizo has influenced us. Never was I an adoring fan of the shimmer and over-the-top element sequins brought; however, this season's flapper-esque influence is intricately everything. With metallics emerging in a strong debut this fall, Tom Ford’s latest collection proved just how professional sequins too can be. The shimmery show-stopper has become a current staple in high fashion, just as they are in the retail realm.

Bubble Trouble & Drop-Waist

Bubble skirts, thought to be gone for good, have been revived as a Spring staple by designers like Khaite, Ulla Johnson, and Proenza Schouler.

Looking Bomb

Have you heard the news? Traditional blazers are OUT. While the craze over the classic staple has died, it left a friend in the will - the bomber. As we shed the puffers and wondrous wool coats, a vintage bomber is an ideal lighter option for layering, in addition to serving some serious street style sass and elevating any day to night look.

Sculptural Jewelry

Spring showers got ya down? Didn’t find much luck in March? May is feeling a little too gray? Statement jewelry is guaranteed to elevate any outfit, and spice up any mood. You may need the thickest hoops of them off to make you feel like the fairest of them all. A bangle that takes your outfit from a Brandy Melville level of basic to a look in which you’re beating to your own drum. Or if it’s really that bad of a day, grab a trendy cross necklace - maybe you can find God.

*Disclaimer: It is not a proven fact that Sculptural earrings can boost mood, increase serotonin levels, or help you find Jesus.

Tailored to a Tee

Designers Jil Sander, Peter Do, and Elena Velez have shined light on the suit moment as an ensemble, proving that clean lines and beautiful materials reinforce that classic suiting is anything but boring.

Buckle Up

No silly, I’m not here to talk about your belts. Remember, we like low rise now! An accessory of an accessory will be all the rage this Spring, as buckles appear on our boots, on our bags, on our dresses – particularly on our lower backs, and on our jeans. Frankly, this trend has my knees feeling weak – practically buckling!

Cargo and Trouser Trouble

The trouser, in its baggy brilliance, has been the pant of the winter, and isn’t leaving the scene this Spring, just sharing the spotlight with the cargo pant that has returned with a ballooning vengeance. Hopping on the Paris Hilton Express, these pieces have embraced the low rise look. These staples offer versatility, pairing well with a classic tank or billowing button down, to dish up the ultimate laidback look or nonchalant poise.

2023 Spring fashion will consist of color, deconstructed staples, and elegance. The shift from fur coats to flip flops doesn’t occur overnight, but these Spring styles all embody a vibrant transition between the layered look of winter into the season of showers until we reach the warm echoes of summer.
